Onus operandi

We learn everyday, today I learned a new word.

Onus

From WordNet (r) 2.0 :

  onus
n : an onerous or difficult concern; "the burden of
responsibility"; "that's a load off my mind" [syn: burden,
load, encumbrance, incumbrance]

Jom Makan!

We've been talking bout this place for some time now. Finally our times met and we paid Bagan Lalang a visit. Singa got a new & better job, so it's our celebration, on his expense ;-). THANK YOU SINGA!

Fresh seafood the Malaysian way!

Dum dee dum~ mana satu huh?

All ready to go! Food was served very fast, 15 minutes and every dish was out!

Singa enjoying himself caught on digital film!

Dessert!

Burp~ dah kenyang ni!

One heck of an evening, in every occasion, it's the company that really matters, food's secondary. It was great to see Singa, even better to have finally met his wife and kid. The kid's only 17 months old, one hyper kid, must've inherited it from his dad ;-).

How did we get to this place? Hmmm..

Dynax 5D black frame of death

The Konica Minolta Dynax 5D is infamous for it's 1st black frame. Usually happens when the camera hasn't been used for some time. Youcanget the parts replaced for free with Sony. Normally it's just a full black frame and the indicator wouldread "Err". This time, 2 weeks left still, even the battery discharged totally, this is what I got. A light saber!

May the force be with you.. my young pahlawan..

Under the Hood

Unless you're driving a sports car, you'd perhaps be searching for 'stuff' to make your ride prowl a lil' more.

I'm more of an engine guy rather than looks or ICE.

I solemnly believe in upgrading these 3 items.
1. Spark plug cables
2. Iridium spark plugs
3. Air filter

Under my hood:
1. High performance spark plug cables
2. Denso Iridium
3. K&N drop in
4. I-FC

If you're interested in item 1 and 4, I know the local (Kuala Lumpur) distributor.

A lot of manufactures out there claim their products somehow magically helps save fuel. So many of us have been 'tricked' into believing this that these days, upon seeing products like these, you just brush them off.

Who doesn't know a Hyundai Matrix is one hell of a fuel guzzler? My ride's a 1.6 A/T. Barely enough for a 1.3 tonne car. On good days, a full tank was averaging around 380KMs. Ya ya it depends on driving habits, traffic bla~ bla~.

After installing the above items. Photos say em' loudest!

Know Your Rights

No single individual is above the law. Not even the people whom enforces it. Very often, we're unaware of our rights. While it may be a boring read, but it's worthwhile.

Hyundai Matrix 40kKM Service

40kKM service is one of the milestones where you'd gawk*, where you'd break a sweat.. where you wish you were riding a bike..

While you could opt to omit this and that, I decided to 'adhere' to the suggestions in the service manual.

The results? Temporary poverty.. perhaps insanity?

Stations of The Cross XI - XV

Saint Anne's Church in Bukit Mertajam clearly is a masterpiece.

Stations of The Cross IV - X

Saint Anne's Church proudly present you..

Stations of The Cross I - V

Stations of The Cross at Saint Anne's

Saint Anne's Church

Bukit Mertajam, Penang, who would think, a small place like that would house one of the world's most loved churches? Saint Anne's Church from my view through a Minolta lens..

The old chapel built in 17th century. Pretty darn old, superbly maintained!

All are welcome into the Lord's house. Woof* you gotta get past me first! A bone will do very well..

A small part of the new church, a very small part.. The whole built up is HUGE!

Come my brothers and sisters..

The 10 commandments..

Stairs to heaven. :-) There's a nice hillock right behind the old church, this is where St. Anne is believed to have been sighted. Very nice.. gives me the feel of ancient times..

Ain't that a sight? Perhaps Sam and Dean from Supernatural would like to pay this place a visit for some ammo huh?

looting em' longkangs!

Remember em' good ol' times spent in the longkangs(drains)? Hunting for guppies. We were armed with a fish net, a bucket and nothing more. We plowed every inch of the filthy grounds.

Consequences.. screams from our parents *I'm innocent*

Reward.. fugly guppies as treats for our bigger fish. *evil grin*

Motivation.. The luv for our arowanas and oscars were unrivaled!

hey take a look at what I stumbled on at Carrefour.. For RM20, you get a neat McGyver kit for em' longkangs!

South bound at the Perak rest area..

iason "boss, kasi 2 kilo mangga tu~" (give me 2 kilos of that mango)
hawker "boleh, u nak 3 ke 1?" (sure, u'd like 3 or 1?)
iason "huh?"
hawker "kari ade 3 rasa, mangga pun ada mah~" (there is a 3 flavored curry, so mango also got ma)
iason "huh?" *by this time I was.. wtf?!*
hawker "sini ade 3 jenis lah, ni.. ni.. ni.." (there are 3 types here, this.. this.. this..)
iason "ohhh cham la~" (ohhh mix please)

RM9 for 2 kilos, 7 luvly juicy mangoes.

This row of mangoes looked the same to me.

Donuts anyone?

I luv donuts, I dun really like Dunkin Donuts, I like the cheap donuts we get from our local bakeries. I've passed Big Apple @ the Curve a couple of times admiring the pretty looking doh-nuts. Finally I gave in..

RM9.50 for a box of 6. Pretty darn pricey duncha think?

Luvly doh-nuts they are! I'd prefer em' over Dunkins. Give em a try!

What to read?

Vilves 1st told me bout this book "the Secret" then I started to hear about it and finally Mich told me she finished the DVD last year. Boy am I out dated or what? Oh well we are eligible for tax exemption for books, so what the heck.

My current reads.

2nd chidhood

I still have no idea what got into me. Was at The Curve and walked pass some toy vending machines. I took a step back. There was an itch and a voice in my head.

the voice "go ahead n get one!"
the mind "come on, a kid u r?"
the voice "let's tickle ur backside a lil'"
the mind "hmm.. it does look interesting."
iason "Dar, take a look, interesting hor~"
mich "Go get one, here's RM5 to get a token."

narrator "RM4 per token"

iason "I feel like a kid and you my mum."

narrator "nevetheless, iason took the money and got a token."
narrator "mich inserts token and turns the dial, it does not budge a lot."
narrator "mich then notices a label '3xtoken'"

mich "needs 3 tokens ler~"
iason without hesitating "I go get another 2~"

It comes packed nicely in a ball. Because of that my robot has a crooked sword and shield.

Balut a true Asian Delicasy

Somewhere at a mamak in Dengkil..

Joseph T. "you know balut?"
iason "huh?"
Mike "duck egg. very famous in Philippines!"
iason *roll eyes*
Mike "it's duck egg, you keep for 18 days then there's a chick inside.."
iason *listens intensely*
Mike "then you steam it for 2 weeks.."
Joseph T. "no, 2 1/2 weeks."
Mike "ya, maybe, then you crack the top and suck the chick out.."
Joseph T. "it's good for men"
Mike "how do you say it? afro.. aphrodisiac!"
Joseph R. "we usually eat it after 10pm.."
iason "so you can perform better huh?!"

*everyone laughs*

My new Filipino colleagues!

In Loving Memories

My Grandfather's journey on earth came to an end when he took his last breathe on the 30th of May.

His love for all of us will remain deep in our hearts.

I'm tempted to write "A Chinese Catholic's Departure"

3rd trip up to Penang..

This is the 3rd trip up to Penang in the 1st half of this year. Is it for the food?

7:32am.. At Tapah's rest area.. A Halo above Shell.. it's a sign..

Fog? What time is it? 8:42am.. The beauty of nature..

After the terowong (tunnel) north bound, traffic came to a halt.

iason ponders "Police road block?!"
iason wonders "Shi* I was going average 150km/h, tht's 40km/h above speed limit!"

*5 minutes later*

iason concludes "This kinda standstill? No way it's block. Should be a terrible accident."

Radio soon announces bzzt* "Somewhere near kilometer 253.3 after the terowong, before Kuala Kangsar, a trailer has slipped causing a massive backlog of about 1km"

iason sighs "Just the news I wanted to hear. I'll be late. Hey I'm at km 254 and the jam's way ahead. Wrong info!"

Lookie at the long curvy line..

Lookie at the long curvy line.. behind..

A crane? The culprit??!??!?!

bzzt* ".. Officials have confirmed that the accident ... has not been cleared ..."

Someone camping in the longkang (drain) arrr?

Any goodies?

iason "chuckle* look at the cop!"
cop "amacam(how) ar? scratch*"

Belakang mari! Somehow the back of the trailer's cabin got crushed as well. Impact from the goods?

Big ass tow truck..

!@#!$#$%^$&@# because of this it took me a lil' less than an hour to cover a 1km stretch which otherwise should take taken no more than 10 minutes..
