Kuala Gandah Fav!

Fav shot from Kuala Gandah Elephant Orphanage Sanctuary

Kuala Gandah Elephant Orphanage Sanctuary

www.myelephants.org

Another hidden treasure u'd find in Malaysia. Kuala Gandah Elephant Orphanage Sanctuary, is exactly what it's name says. You'd find out that not a lot of Malaysian know this place. I was fortunate to have visited this place with gr8 company!

I found it not too straight forward in getting information to visit the place. Here's what I got from a good friend who has been there, pretty precise information :-).

  • Make reservations +609 2790391 for the amount of people in the group.
  • A certain number will be allocated with yellow stickers, while the rest with red stickers. It's the way it's done, not all receive the almighty yellows. There were 9 of us and 5 were awarded the yellows.
  • It's a 1 1/2 hours drive from Gombak toll plaza.
  • 13:30 arrival for registration.
  • Fill up the form, and you'll be given yellow and red stickers.
  • Fee? It's FREE! Please donate after the activities on ya way out. After all I'm sure u'd have had a blast of a time n tht'll b the very least u cud do :-)
Inside the registration office, you'd see some information on the elephants and what not..

A video on trans location, very interesting story.. tells us how wild elephants are tracked and moved.. why are the elephants moved? Well u gotta watch the video ;-)

Red stickers.. visiting only, no activities.. well feeding is allowed..

The almighty yellows.. everything.. feeding, riding, flip and bathing..

Just after 14:00.. out come the elephants marching!

Some headed for a dip in the river, while some headed for a more personalized shower..

Right after, feeding time! Reds are also allowed to feed the mammals..

Then comes the rides.. Look at the patient queue.. under the hot sun..

Visitors anxiously board our dear eles, you could tell everyone was excited..

The flers take you on a very short walk.. you could understand seeing the number of people with only a few eles..

What next after the ride? The river of course! Yes that's a river, a typical milky river..

Watch ya steps!

Ok for this, there's no escaping.. the ele is trained to lay to it's side.. thus.. throwing ya into the river! If this wasn't expected, it would've been so much more thrilling!

While the big ele's busy flipping people into the river, the smaller ones are on the left.. having fun! All well loved! This is the bathing-with-the-eles-in-the-river part.. also the last activity..

I wore the red sticker.. I enjoyed myself equally seeing friends with all smiles.. of course I was toasted having been under the sun most of the time, snapping away..

n.. of course we donated!

Nature..

This huge ass rock looked like it was karate chopped..

Lata Kinjang Waterfall

Those who travel north passing Perak would've seen signboards with the letters "Lata Kinjang" waterfall / air terjun. I've seen it so many times but it never crossed my mind to visit the place. Last weekend I had the chance. I wondered why I never visited the place as it was one heck of a relaxing time we had!

What I love most? A 15 minutes stroll from where you park will take you up to the sweet spot of the waterfall. Yes, 15 minutes.. not a 2 hour hike or anything like that.

What did we do there? Sit around and relax.. literally.. The fresh air and negative ions sure does a tonne of good to the city dwellers.. a must visit!

Canon 40D Weatherproof?

The weather wasn't too pleasant during my recent visit to Kek Lok Si Temple in Penang. It started to rain when we parked our car. All I had was my 40D mounted with a 24-15mm f/4.0 L IS USM, no bag.

So I carried an umbrella protecting myself and the camera during the short walk to the temple. Once within the temple's vicinity, darn it was hard to shoot with an umbrella and worrying as not all parts of the temple is covered. So how now brown cow?

Well I know L lenses are protected from the elements, how about the camera body? There's quite a lot of talk on the validity of the Canon 40D with some claims of it being weatherproof. So I decided to take a chance.. Passed the umbrella along and off I was in the heavy drizzle with the camera strapped around my shoulder.. Talk about taking chances huh..

At the end of our visit, back in the car, I noticed the camera was rather wet.. thus this foto..

p/s The camera's just fine ;-) ... phew~

Authentic Nyonya Food

Restoran Peranakan, Malacca serves very nice Nyonya food. Located along Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, if you do pay the place a visit, remember to order the sambal ;-).

Big and Small Brother

The indestructible Canon couple!

Tree at Saint Paul's Hill

I took this shot outside of Saint Paul's Church.. for a reason..

Anyone wanna take a wild guess?

Christ Church Melaka

Pictures are worth a thousand words they say! Christ Church Melaka summarized..

Malacca River

Sungai Melaka.. The river that made Malacca what it was, that brought wealth to the state..

"Sungai Bersih Hidup Ceria" literally word to word translation "River Clean Live Happy"

Can someone please tell me what this big wheel is?

Wanna take a dip?

Jonker Street Under the Sun

Some of the architecture along Jonker Street's amazing..

Carved or molded?

Anyhow good for a foto!

The traffic during peak hours (even the weekend) was constantly slow moving.. Well at least it wasn't stand still..

An orange pillar with a sense of humor!

I love this concept where there is an air well in the center.

Boy it was hot hot hot and humid humid humid morning!

Jonker Street

Temple Street @ Malacca

Our first destination after lunch, Temple Street, Malacca.

This is our oldest temple in the country. Cheng Hoon Teng temple along Temple Street.

I overheard a tour guide telling his customers that sailors came to this temple and said their prayers for a safe return. Upon safe return, the sailors returns to pay their thanks.

These poles (there's another one of em') signifies the influence this temple had to the sailors. They look like masts don't they?

*story retold based on an eavesdropping activity*

Look at that babe.. erm.. what do you call this in English? Anyone?
