with every step, with every stone we over turn, in anything we do, once we get the basics right, the foundation solid, any challenges along the way will be easily dealt with.

Moving towards M42 / M42x1
My recent photography interest is sparking new horizons. I kinda made a unique choice by getting a Konica Minolta Dynax 5D, also known as Maxxum 5D is the states. Accessories are limited (very) in Malaysia. Singapore has more but heck it's a hassle. Walking around seeing the abundance of accessories for Canon and Nikon DSLRs makes me green with envy.
Somewhere in January 2006 KM announced it was pulling out of the photo imaging industry. It would transfer some (undefined amount) of it's technology to Sony. Well Sony's known for it's premium prices. Just before the last quarter of 2006, we saw Sony launch it's A100 DSLR. The legions of KM fans are expecting (hoping) alot from Sony, for them to market the product aggresively thus introducing more accessories etc.
Do I wait? Do I move on?
Well I certainly don't have the extra $ to get a new system now. I'm dying for more lenses to play with as I'm getting bored of the kit lens (18-70mm). What options am I left with?
M42 of course! From dear ol' wikipedia
All I needed to fit a M42 lens was an adapter which I just purchased from eBay. When / If I do change systems, all I need to do is to get an adapter for the new system and my M42 lenses will theoratically work on the new cam!
The M42 lens mount is a screw thread mounting standard for attaching lenses to 35 mm cameras, primarily single-lens reflex models. It is more accurately known as the M42 × 1 mm standard, which means that it is a metric screw thread of 42 mm diameter and 1 mm thread pitch. It was first used in Zeiss' Contax S of 1949; this East German branch of Zeiss also sold cameras under the Pentacon name; after merger with other East German photographic manufacturers, the name Praktica was used. M42 thread mount cameras first became well-known in Japan under the Praktica brand, and thus the M42 mount is known as the Praktica thread mount there. Since there were no proprietary elements to the M42 mount, many other manufacturers used it; this has led to it being called the Universal thread mount or Universal screw mount by many. The M42 mount was popularized in the United States by Pentax; thus, it is also known as the Pentax thread mount, despite the fact that Pentax did not originate it.
more..
Of course we need a lens. My 1st M42 mount lense:
I've been itching for a 50mm lens for sometime now. This opens a can of worms. I've got quite a few choices now, Helios / Takumar / Carl Zeiss / Soligor / Pentacon .. etc ..
But why buy lenses tht were made during the 1960s truhout the 1990s? It is rumoured tht the quality of these lenses are nothing short of the ones we have today. There are lots of photos taken with these lenses with digital bodies posted on the net. One major change would be these lenses will not work with the AF (auto-focus) mechanism of the camera. So it's manual focusing. The old school way.
I'm excited. My items should b arriving in the range of 7 - 10 working days.

Mobile - ring*ring?
An item we are accustomed to being our loyal servant. One we would not leave home without. A device tht brings joy. A gadget tht entertains. Just tht something tht completes the gadgety lives of ours.
Now, how many of us know the basics of our mobile phones? How do we make a call, how are we located? How does 2 calls connect? Better, how does International Roaming works? The stuff that killed satellite phones.
Well here's a glimpse of how a mobile switch room looks like
*disclaimer. These photos are for educational purposes only. No operator names were mentioned. shall the respective parties recognise the photos to be from it's premisses, they have the right to contact me for immediate removal.

Shiny n spanky. These fellas contribute to the connectivity n availability of the services we subscribe to.

There's an obvious "finishing" difference from the "shiny n spanky" from abv. Oh well u get wat u pay for.
Battery backup.
These are only a tiny portion of the infrastructure needed to make one phone call possible.

Some minced meat served with pita bread.

Salad, 3/4 in the tummy digesting by the time this pic was taken.
Main entrance, we were sitting outside.
I remember this last one, Arabic coffee! The aroma was so strong, not the coffee but what I think were spices! Definitely something different. Got my senses tingling with confusion!

Hoya Filters - +3 & Multi-Vision part II
With my kit lens 18-70mm (Dynax 5D) it would be pretty impossible to achieve these close-ups.
Using +3. These are not crops, actual foto resized. The sharpness is SUPERB!

Hoya Filters - +3 & Multi-Vision part I
Look what I've got here.. Hoya lens filters!!! The best-est part of it? FOC courtesy of a very very kind friend, she promises to dig up more for me.. hint* hint*
They looked like they'd been stowed away fer months if not years, so a lil cleaning was needed.
From the left:
1. Hoya 53 - 55mm step-up ring
2. Hoya Multi-Vision
3. Hoya +3
Alcohol solution, cotton buds, facial tissue were the weapons.
Using the step-up ring causes the outer black circle when the zoom is shortest(18mm).
Yoda performing some illusions. Multi-Vision, 3 face.
He's tired after the performance. +3.

Why iason?
Quite a few ppl hv asked, why iason(iasonooi.blogspot.com)?
JASON |
Gender: Masculine Usage: English, Greek Mythology (Latinized), Biblical Pronounced: JAY-sun [key] |
From the Greek name Ιασων (Iason), which was derived from Greek ιασθαι (iasthai) "to heal". Jason was the leader of the Argonauts in Greek legend. He went in search of the Golden Fleece in order to win back his kingdom from his uncle Pelias. During his journeys he married the sorceress Medea, who helped him gain the fleece and kill his uncle, but who later turned against him when he fell in love with another woman. This name is also used in Acts in the New Testament to translate the Hebrew name Joshua. |
Taken from here.
Iason is Greek for Jason. There's also a Hebrew version, Joshua.
Hey the name Jason has a history aight, dun pray pray..
This article is about the Greek mythological hero Jason.

Now, where did I park me car?
How many of us have actually 'forgotten' where we parked be it in a shopping mall or some commercial building?
This is what I do. Yet another use for a camera phone. Instead of stuffing more info. into our already maxed out brains(tho it's rumored we use less than 10% of our brain).
Sunway Pyramid - the parking there right now's a chaos!
My fav. mall, 1 Utama old wing.
